ND-ISF Sap Flow Sensor

What is the ND-ISF? The ND-ISF is a heat-pulse sap flow sensor that measures the rate at which water moves up through a tree stem — a direct quantification of plant water use. Heat velocity is measured from −200 to over +1000 cm/h with 0.01 °C internal temperature resolution — ideal for plant physiology, plant water-use studies, hydraulic redistribution research, hydrology and irrigation scheduling connected to the yDoc ML-525 datalogger.

Applications

Where the ND-ISF is used

Plant physiology

Quantify transpiration, hydraulic conductance and stomatal regulation in research stands.

Plant water use

Whole-tree water consumption for orchard, vineyard and forest water-use studies.

Hydraulic redistribution

Detect upward and downward water movement — a key process in dryland ecosystems.

Hydrology

Catchment-scale evapotranspiration and water-balance research.

Irrigation scheduling

Match irrigation to actual plant water uptake, not just soil or weather indicators.

Integration

Powered by the yDoc ML-525 datalogger

The ND-ISF connects directly to the yDoc ML-525 datalogger. The yDoc powers the sensor, schedules measurements, stores readings locally and transmits them to the Sensor-Online platform via 4G/LTE-M, NB-IoT, LoRaWAN, satellite or Ethernet — with up to 10 years of battery life.
