LoRaWAN and PLC integration in 2026
In 2026, wireless LoRaWAN sensors and hardwired PLC systems coexist in most industrial facilities. Connecting them no longer requires custom middleware or IT projects. Sensor-Online BridgeX makes the integration a configuration task, not a development task.
Why connect LoRaWAN to PLC?
- Add wireless monitoring points without cabling cost
- Bring environmental data (temperature, humidity, vibration) into SCADA views
- Enable alarm inputs from remote sensors without new I/O modules
- Upgrade legacy systems with wireless sensors while keeping existing PLC logic
Architecture overview
LoRaWAN sensors communicate to a gateway, data flows to Sensor-Online cloud or on-premises, BridgeX maps sensor channels to Modbus TCP registers, PLC polls BridgeX as Modbus slave. The PLC sees no difference from a wired Modbus transmitter.
Latency and update rate
LoRaWAN sensors typically report every 5-15 minutes. BridgeX updates registers within seconds of each incoming value. For monitoring and alarm purposes this is entirely sufficient. For closed-loop control, hardwired sensors remain the correct choice. Read more.
